why you should watch lost
lost is my favorite tv show of all time. it's a character-driven sci-fi drama that takes place on a mysterious island after the crash of oceanic flight 815. its story is compelling, and keeps you on your toes, but what really shines is its ensemble cast of characters. it gives ample attention to each character, and their stories are relatable and resonant, even 20+ years later.

my favorite characters

desmond hume
desmond is tied for my very favorite character with miles. his arc really resonates with me personally as it deals with feelings of inadequacy in relationships and overcoming insurmountable odds to reconnect.miles straume
miles is special to me because he fits exactly my favorite-character archetype. he's sarcastic, indifferent, but ultimately is shown to have a moral compass. during his arc, he grapples with his relationship to his parents. i think his story is a good allegory for grief, but i can't expand upon this without spoiling it.
sun-hwa kwon
i love sun because she's so complex. her relationship with jin is messy and at points toxic but very realistic. her story is about love prevailing, but more than that, putting the hard work in to repair a relationship. i admire her drive and courage and relate to her grief.
juliet burke
juliet is one of the best characters on the show. her dynamic with every other character is amazing. i love that her character arc is a conduit for the show's theme of fertility. while her arc may not have ended how i wished it did, i think it is very emotional and upon reflection, well executed and integrated.daniel faraday
dan is only this low because it feels unfair to compare him to other characters. i resonate with his character arc in a way that's incredibly special. while it may not be the author's intent, his arc reads to me as a poignant allegory for disability--dealing with parental expectations, the idea of destiny and free will, and many other themes that ring true for me in my personal life.
my favorite episodes (contains spoilers!)
s1e16: outlaws
sawyer has beef with a boar. locke gives a non-sequitir speech about his dead sister. that's all i need to say.s3e10: tricia tanaka is dead
awesome hurley centric with one of the funniest flashback sequences. also, sawyer, hurley, and jin working together is fun.
